A Tier B pick, she’s a budget-buster but worth every cent for her fearless drops and potential for 10-point rides. I’ll be powering her up.

Vahine Fierro
The defending champ is back to crush yellow jersey dreams. Vahine’s local knowledge and tube-honed instincts make her a proper Teahupo’o terror. Lock her in at Tier C, and watch your points mount up. The only reason I wouldn’t power her up is that she’ll likely be against Molly Picklum in the quarters. Molly is another savage option for a podium finish, but I’m keeping my powder dry and picking Caity in tier A instead.

Bettylou Sakura Johnson
Betty Lou’s past at Teahupo’o hasn’t set the world alight, but her barrel-riding is pure volcano fire. She’s a wizard in heavy tubes, and with her Tier B slottage, is a sneaky pick for a quarters-or-better upset. If the swell pumps, expect her to surprise the field with some clutch scores. While most people will pick Carol, Betty is your lowkey killer. 

Kelia Gallina

While the 12-year-old wildcard is a future phenom, she doesn’t quite have what it takes yet to beat the world’s best women just yet. Kelia’s got heart, but lacks the experience to outgun the likes of Molly Picklum, Gabriella Bryan or Caity Simmers. Save your budget for proven tube queen Vahine and skip the gamble.

Jack Robinson
Robbo is a past champ at Teahupo’o, and with a juicy swell forecast, he’ll be licking his chops like a junkyard dog. His late-season charge for the top 5 starts here, blending style, power, and barrel mastery. In tier B he’s even more obvious as a starter. Let this guy off the chain and he’ll eat up the rest of the draw and start sniffing for more. 

Italo Ferreira
The defending champ is a tube-riding tornado. Italo’s electric style and knack for pulling impossible exits make him a no-brainer here. Expect him to light up the scoreboard with that signature Brazilian flair. He’s actually happy he’s not in the yellow jersey here, because poor old Yago and Jordy are stuck against the wildcard death threats. Ferreira is your best bet to glide through the draw to finals. 

Leonardo Fioravanti
Leo’s an absolute tube slut and he’s about to fire up pit Tinder this week. In Tier B, he’s a steal for your Fantasy team. His lust for heavy barrels and knack for finding the glory hole at Chopes could see him go all the way. If he channels his inner Pipeline warrior, a win isn’t out of the question. His big goal for this year is a major trophy and I’m thinking he’s well within striking distance.

Filipe Toledo
Word on the reef is Fil’s nursing a sore tummy, courtesy of the ‘big-swell’ virus. Teahupo’o’s monstrous tubes aren’t his healthy place, and his style leans more flair than heavy-water grit. Steer clear and save your budget for surfers built for Chopes’ chaos. In Tier B you’d pick just about anyone else. Conner, Barron, Cole, Crosby. Give Miggy a start. His guts are made of steel.

Teahupo’o is all about committing to the tube, picking the drainers, and keeping your cool when the end section is starting you down.
