The Pacific lefthand tube series has been run and done. Now it’s time for some hi-fi surfing at one of the planet’s most rippable waves: Lower Trestles. This joint in Southern Cali is a dreamy peak that offers ramps and rail sections. If you’re trying to get pitted here, you’re doing it wrong. Lowers heavily favours speed, power, and the ability to throw your board into acrobatics that make people on the beach go ‘what the hell just happened?’.

The forecast at this point is for chest to head high waves to start the waiting period, so anyone with a Brazilian flag next to their name is looking excited, as will anyone else spry on their feet in smaller surf. With that in mind, here are your best WSL Fantasy Surfer Picks for Trestles 2026.

WOMENSDEFINITES

Erin Brooks

Back to back wins and Erin has shot up the rankings faster than Elon Musk’s schlong-shaped rocket ships. Pow. Some people will be tempted to sit her on the bench now that she’s up with the big girls in Tier A again. Don’t. Her progressive surfing is unmatched on tour right now and with a more Southerly swell direction shaping up, the lefts at Trestles could be butter. Can she go the triple-trot win? No one has since Carissa in 2015. We could be watching more surfing history unfold.

Betty Lou

If you have a defending event champ in Tier B and don’t pick them, you should go to Fantasy Surfer jail. Add to that Betty Lou was in incredible form in Fiji and it would be criminal not to have her in your posse. Her pony-tail whips are lightning fast, adding extra flair to her attack in lefts and rights. She’s also sparkier than flint on steel in smaller surf. The only thing that will hinder her is that her seed will have her up against someone heavy early. The WSL are being slower than a wet fart putting up the draw though, so at the time of writing I don’t know who that is.

DARK HORSE:

Sawyer Lindblad

It’s a little weird to call someone sitting in Tier A a darkhorse, but a lot of crew will overlook Sawyer Lindblad for the superstar names like Erin Brooks, Molly Picklum and Caity Simmers (if she’s over her injury enough to surf). Sawyer, though, is a proper smiling assassin at Lowers. She got a sneaky 3rd place here last year with huge heat point totals. We know this game is all about points, so she’s a great one to have earning gold. Seriously consider.

AVOID

Stephanie Gilmore

Hear me out. Momentum is everything in professional sport, and since her win at Snapper early this year, the GOAT of women’s surfing has basically been chewing grass. Four round 1 exits in a row is hard to turn around, especially when the forecast isn’t pumping. Some people will have visions in their head of Steph’s historic 8th world title win at this wave, going on a tear to go from 5th to 1st. You know who else remembers that? Carissa? God forbid they have a heat together this year. Riss will crush her like a vengeful Hawaiian goddess. Steph might go okay, but I’d be looking at the likes of Alyssa Spencer or Tya Zebrowski in Tier C as surer options.

MENSDEFINITES

Yago Dora

Defending world champ. Defending Trestles champ. This wave is made for Yago’s brand of surfing. Every single trick in Yago’s deep, wrinkly bag will be pulled out at this event. Airs, backhand whips, forehand sawblades. I don’t even know what that last one is, but it sounds cool and I’m sure he can do it. My biggest tip to power up for double points.

Filipe Toledo

Filipe has just had a bridle in his mouth at the two waves on tour that least suit his surfing. Like a prize stallion, he’s going to be champing at the bit to come out and fibreglass blast his competition back to the beach this time. Trestles is his current home break, he’s won world titles out here, and has something to prove. That’s a deadly combination and I’m betting he’s going to slay his way deep into the draw. Get him in your team.

DARK HORSE

Kanoa Igarashi

Similar to Sawyer Lindblad, Kanoa had a killer run at this event last year. He finished runner-up against Yago Dora with some huge heat totals along the way. Kanoa’s best event this year was Brazil too, which showcased the kind of surfing we all want to see at Lowers. Lively, unpredictable, powerful. Another guy who calls this place home, Kanoa will be on the good ones as soon as the hooter blows. As a tier B pick, he’s a dark horse for an overall win. Hard to overlook.

AVOID

Oscar Berry

Maybe Oscar should shave his mustache off because it seems like it’s been weighing him down all year. The guy literally has not won a single heat this season and now he’s going to have Mateus Herdy to contend with in small, air-type waves. May as well book his ticket to Vegas now for a post-season nose blow. Worst thing is, as an Aussie, I badly want Oscar to prove me wrong. Fire up, knowing you’re definitely not in my team or anyone else’s, mate.

We’re about to get to the pointy end of the WSL season. This is the last time we’ll see the full 2026 lineup of surfers until Pipe. Make the most of the wider field to slide in a few cheeky picks, because soon it’s going to be hard not to have a team like everyone elses. Good luck! Hope these Best Fantasy Surfer Picks for Trestles help you jag some points on your buddies.
