Catch Surf boards have taken the fun surf world by storm over the last few years. Thanks to Jamie O’Brien and a bunch of others, boards like the Catch Surf Beater, Womper, Odysea and more are hot tickets in the water. You can throw yourself into some wild shorey nugs, glide on a soft longboard, or just generally lare it up with the crew. But what are the best Catch Surf boards for what you’re going to use them for? Here’s a breakdown to help you figure out your Stumps from your TWIGS.

BEST CATCH SURF BOARD FOR BEGINNERSODYSEA LOG

The easier it is to catch waves and stand up, the more fun you’ll have as a beginner.

For pure stability and paddle power it’s hard to beat the Catch Surf Odysea Log. Adults will be all over the 8’0’’ option like a rash vest on a torso. Most beginner groms will prefer the 7’0’’ option, or even the 6’0’’ for those under 10 years old.

For people who want something with a bit of extra personality, we love the Jamie Brown Log. Super fun.

BEST CATCH SURF BOARD FOR GOOD SURFERS...Lost® RNF

Let’s face it, nothing is going to replace your regular shortboard for pure performance. It’s still rad to have something in the quiver that will allow for softcore action, while letting you rip. The best mix of this is the Catch Surf x …Lost® RNF. Its fish style design has a hip swallow tail, thruster fin set up, and wildly cool options in terms of colours.

A definite one to have in the shed to inject excitement into small day shreds.

BEST CATCH SURF BOARD FOR BODYSURFINGTHE WOMPER

Gangnam Style, womp, womp, womp. The Womper is still a cracking little hand plane for kids big and small to shorey bash with. If you’re really into your bodysurfing, it’s not high performance (in that case, you’re probably better of with something like this). However, The Womper is sturdy, can take a beating, and will act as a weird frisbee if you need more beach fun.

BEST CATCH SURF BOARD FOR SHORE-BREAKSTWINS OR THRUSTERS?

So you’re wanting to throw yourself into some sandy slabs? You’ll probably be wanting something shorter with zap to get the best times rolling. The question then is, twin fin or thruster? Catch Surf have evolved their new boards since their original releases, we think for the better. So instead of going the OG Catch Surf Boards, check out these…

Best Twinny – Catch Surf TWIG

The Catch Surf Beater was the most popular shorebreak banger. We now prefer the TWIG instead. It has a bit more paddle power and turnability. Yes, turnability is an actual word. This model tends to sell out fast in the signature pro models, so do you best to snap one up. There’s always the standard Catch TWIG too, which is still pretty sick.

Best Thruster – Catch Surf Stump

Again, some people will tell you the 54 Special is the go for fun softboard thrusters. The cut down little brother of the Log, aka The Stump, is our preference. It’s more forgiving, gets into waves a bit easier and will perform best for most surfers. A definite Catch Surf Odysea Surfboard to have in the quiver.
